Police spokesperson Sergeant Sanku Tshunke said the incident happened about 19:20 on Monday. A Blairgowrie man, 73, whom police prefer not to name at this stage, went outside his home in Blairgowrie Avenue to see if his car was still safe. Three men, one of them armed, approached him and forced him back into the house. They demanded the keys to the safe. They then assaulted the man and his wife, aged 69, tied them up and blindfolded them. A neighbour heard the commotion and alerted the ADT security company who phoned the police. The dog unit, the flying squad and Linden police responded to the call. The robbers opened fire on police when they arrived at the house. The police returned fire, and the three men were wounded. They have been admitted to the Rand Clinic under police guard. The victims of the robbery were bruised and in a state of shock, but did not need to be hospitalised. Tshunke said one unlicensed firearm was seized at the scene. ED - Well done ADT!
