Dear Residents
We have recently received an email titled "Please forward this to every one you would like to be save on the roads", the information contained within, is that when you are pulled over by an unmarked police car you should dial a few digits on your cellphone to confirm their legitimacy.
We have since received feedback from Captain Naidoo, Head of Media Relations SAPS:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This is a hoax e-mail, it has obviously been circulated on the internet and eventually reached South Africa. The emergency numbers to call in South Africa from a mobile phone is 112, 147 or 10111.
Kind regards"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We therefore request that when you are stopped by an unmarked vehicle you lock your doors and call 112 from your cellphone. The 112 emergency number works with all three networks. When the operator answers your call, request that you be transferred to the Johannesburg Flying Squad.
Regards, The BRAC Team
