This weeks "Forum Focus" is about ATM assistance.
We would like to find out if any of our residents have been offered assistance at any ATM's.
There is currently a group of "ATM assistance" 'people' that offer to help and whist helping, other members of the group look out for your pin, they then swap the card and drive off.
So if this has happened to you, we would like to know. When, Where, What happened. Did they get your card? Was any money drawn?
You do not need to give any personal details about the incident.
Have a great weekend and a great coming week!
Regards The BRAC Team

Happpened to me long ago but in Parkhurst. Machine showed "enter your 19 digit code now"...and very well dressed black gentleman with Police sunglasses offered to "help". Switched cards and left. I followed, but he just sauntered away. I called FNB help line to cancel my card....the call was never answered. It took 8 minutes for the fraudster to get to the Shell Garage in Victory Park and draw cash. All the while I was waiting for my call to be answered. FNB denied any help, but ATM was closed due to so many similar incidents there.

Dear Residents, this comment was found posted on the Juskei Park's online forum. Take it seriously, the people that "assist" you at the ATM are very convincing! ----------------
ATM Scam
The following information was received from a resident of Boskruin East (BEAR).
When: Tuesday 01 June 2004 in the afternoon
Where: Boskruin Village BP garage
What: The residents wife had just keyed in her PIN number at the ATM when the person from behind her started fiddling with the ATM keyboard, telling her he worked there and that the machine was not working. The card was then missing and she thought that the machine took the card. She then immediately phoned the emergency number on the machine to cancel the card, but apparently the bank slipped up and the card was not cancelled. She then went to the Bank to find out that R 1000 has been withdrawn. I think this person must have distracted her attention and then took the card and somehow saw the pin number. She also spoke to the manager at the BP shop and they then looked at the CCTV tapes, but the camera did not cover the ATM machine.
Lessons to be learned: - no ATM is safe, even inside shops - be aware of people near you and cover the card slot with your hand the moment when somebody speaks to you and also keep your eyes on the card slot. DO NOT BE DISTRACTED! - scream or draw attention to your situation. - do not move away from the machine, phone the emergency number, instruct them to cancel the card and get a reference number. _________________ Kind Regards, The RAC Committee
