VERY IMPORTANT!
Dear Residents
Please note that ATM card swapping rife and in our area!
While the ATM user is using the ATM, a person will attempt to assist you. They are PERSISTENT in attempting to help (even if you do not allow them too) and in the mean time, another of their accomplice(s) is noting down your pin number. They then manage to swap your card, leaving the legitimate ATM user believing that the machine has taken their card.
They then draw your daily cash withdrawal allowance, even before you manage to cancel your card with the bank. If you do not realize immediately that your card is missing, they will draw your daily limit every day, until you realize your card is missing and cancel it.
When you use the ATM, stand very close to it, using your other hand to shield the entering of your pin number. Be alert and periodically check who is standing behind you. If you feel insecure, cancel your transaction and leave the ATM. Changing of and having long (6 digits) PIN numbers may also be a good idea.
These people are professionals, and do their act VERY quickly. It seems that they mainly operate during peak periods (in the morning and late afternoon).
It is therefore suggested that you keep a list of all your account numbers, so in the event of having to cancel your card(s), it will be easier than having to source all account numbers.
