Johannesburg police are searching for two khaki-clad killers, described as "males of African origin" after a two murders near the city's Delta Park.

Superintendent Chris Wilken said the city's police commissioner, Oswald Reddy, had formed a task team headed up by its serious and violent crime unit to track the two down.

A 48-year-old man was shot dead near the park in Blairgowrie on Friday afternoon, less than a day after a woman was shot dead and her daughter severely assaulted in the same area.

"Information at the disposal of police investigators indicates that two males of African origin are targeting pedestrians during mid-evening hours (between 7pm and 10pm) in the immediate vicinity of the Blairgowrie community.

The police's equestrian unit and motorbike squad in the city, as well as police from nearby stations, would be deployed in and around the park to catch the two.

Having previously been actively involved within the Blairgowrie area, working with the Linden SAPS, I honestly believe that we as a community can get involved in taking back our suburb. I do know that BRAC are quite active - but surely there must be an effective way of getting sectors working and being able to communicate directly in this way. At one stage there used to be meetings at Linden SAPS on Monday nights and that seems to have come to a stop. I have 112 residents within a closure in Blairgowrie and I communicate with them via email when a sitation crops up relating to general crime awareness. How else can one help and be involved?

Delta Park crimes investigations continue
Police investigations into a spate of serious crimes in Delta Park will continue despite the death of a suspect in custody. Joburg police say the man was one of three suspects arrested in connection with a series of murders and robberies in the Blairgowrie area.

The 30-year-old man attacked a police officer in the holding cells at the Linden station. He stabbed the officer several times with a sharp object and attempted to escape. Captain Schalk Bornman says a second police officer saw what was going down and fired shots at the suspect.

Thank you for all this info Paul. I live about 2 streets away from Delta Park and my children's school regularly has their Big Walks there.

Seems more shocking when it is so close to home, doesn't it.
